The NewDEAL

The NewDEAL is a selective center-left network of state and local elected leaders from across the nation. Our mission is to scour the country to lift up the best and brightest elected officials who are pragmatic and get results – including councilmembers, county executives, mayors, state legislators, and state-wide leaders below the level of governor. We promote their ideas for expanding opportunity, spurring economic growth, and creating broadly shared, sustainable progress.

Host Debbie Cox Bultan, CEO of the NewDEAL, has built her career cultivating and supporting talented Democrats at the state and local levels. She brings a unique perspective based on her long relationships with many of the Leaders in the NewDEAL Network.

Ryan Coonerty

Host, American Politician

Ryan Coonerty, a nationally recognized local government leader, advises elected officials, businesses and organizations seeking innovative public policy outcomes. He is a former two-time Mayor and County Supervisor of Santa Cruz County as well as an entrepreneur, author, and educator. Currently, he serves as a Senior Policy Advisor to San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and numerous companies. He is a long-time lecturer on law and government at UC Santa Cruz and the Panetta Institute for Public Policy.
