Bringing together the sharpest thinkers to reveal the real-world impact of American government, one episode at a time.
View ChannelThe government gets a bad rap. But the roads under your feet, the forecast on your phone, and the letter in your mailbox are all government too. Hosted by Professors Greg Jackson and Lindsey Cormack, Government That Doesn't Suck brings together the sharpest thinkers to reveal the real-world impact of American government, one episode at a time.
Democracy isn't just something we vote for once every few years, it's something we build together, in our neighborhoods, city halls, and everyday relationships. Corinna Bellizzi is joined by Angela Glover Blackwell, founder of PolicyLink and host of Reimagining Democracy for a Good Life, who has spent more than 50 years working at the intersection of racial equity, housing, and civic life. Angela reflects on how growing up during segregation shaped her understanding of community and leadership, explains why she defines democracy as "co-governance for human flourishing," and makes the case that America may be ready for a third founding. She also shares how tools like civic assemblies and participatory budgeting can restore civic life, and why joy has to remain at the center of any vision for real change.
Last September 2022, Corinna Bellizzi interviewed Tzeporah Berman, Founder of Stand.earth. Her inspiring words from that episode were used by Donna Grantis in her moving musical presentation centered on climate activism, A Drop in the Bucket. Donna is here to talk about using her music in raising awareness on saving the environment through her newest project, Culture v. Policy. She explains the role of arts during a climate emergency, some simple practices to reconnect with nature, and why she considers Planet Earth as a co-writer of her songs.
Corinna is joined by an incredible leader in natural foods, entrepreneurship and climate activism, Paul Hawken as they discuss his history and his latest work: Regeneration: Ending The Climate Crisis In One Generation.
